ISO 22716:2007
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for Cosmetics
As of 11 July 2013, the European Union’s new Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 requires cosmetic products to be manufactured according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Thus ISO 22716:2007 has become the international standard for GMP for cosmetics, having been carefully considered by the cosmetic industry to accommodate for the specific needs of this sector, emphasising on the quality of cosmetic products in relation to the customer, the traceability and accountability in the production and distribution process of the product. These standards have already been approved and accepted by many global regulatory bodies, such as the International Cooperation on Cosmetics Regulation (ICCR), Food & Drug Administration (FDA), and the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN).
To demonstrate this compliance, a lot of companies are implementing ISO 22716:2007, as their standard management systems approach to documenting and regulating the production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetic products. Enforcing these guidelines provides organisations with practical advice and methods for managing the numerous human, technical, and administrative factors that can affect product quality. This guide is structured in a way that is complementary to existing management systems in place such as the ISO 9001.
